replacing a bathtub and the new one does not meet flush with the drain pipe, It is flush with the overflow pipe and height is perfect for that. Unfortunately the bottom of the tub, where it drains, sits 3-4 inches away form the drain pipe. This is a significant gap. is there an adapter out there? or am I on the wrong track? need help please! standard tub

Do you have free access to under the tub, say from a basement? If so, you can cut the existing one and install a two couplings and a short piece of the same size pipe, gluing them up. Some tub assemblies are adjustable, so I am not sure which one you have.
