It would have to be at the control or the cable or the carburetor itself.

First make sure the return spring is in place. If OK, spray the control pivot and the hookup at the carburetor with penetrating oil. Work everything back forth manually and see if that doesn't take care of it.

If not, the sticking would be in the cable. If the cable is multistrand you could have a broken strand in the cable and it would have to be replaced to fix it.

But it may just need to be lubed. If the penetrating oil you have is also a lubricant use that. First disconnect the cable from the carburetor and get the end out where you can work on it.

Then take a small plastic bag from Mom's kitchen and a good rubber band (from wherever). Spray about three ounces or so of the penetrating oil in the plastic bag and stick the end of the cable in the bag. Then with the open end of the bag still up, use your rubber band to tightly wrap the bag around the cable sheath.

With everything tight, invert the bag and let the oil cover the end of the cable in the bag. Apply just a very small amount of pressure to the bag to force the lubricant the full length of the cable to lubricate it.

When you see the oil coming out the lower end of the cable, you can remove the bag and reattach the cable to the carburetor. That should do the trick.

Hope this helps,

Bob
