Last night I noticed that the condensate pump on my basement a/c is not working. Tonight I'll open it up and see if the float is stuck. Any other suggestions on repair? Also, this is a two prong plug version. It is plugged into a wall socket, and in addition, it is wired to something inside the a/c unit. It's very narrow gage wire so I can't imagine it's power. It has me confused...if there's a floater that starts the pump inside, why is it wired to the a/c as well?
Thanks!
Joe

That wire is a cut off switch, if the pump fails, it will break the power for the A/C to prevent water from overflowing the pump.
Take the pump apart, and see if anything got sucked into the pump itself, otherwise, make sure you got power at the plug-in where the pump is pluged into.

Hello Jay,
Thanks for the reply. I took it apart and cleaned everything and it works fine now. Maybe the floater got stuck. Funny, that cutoff switch didn't cut off anything when the pump overflowed. :) Thanks again.

Sounds like the cut off wasn't wired up right.. it should be wired in 2 ways.
-Cut off the outdoor unit. but keeps the fan on.
-Cut off to kill power going to the t-stat.
