We bought our house 1 1/2 years ago. It is a 1962 bungalow. We decided that we would update and change our basement to make it more part of the house and usuable. We tore down all of the wall board that was up and replaced with drywall. We are about half way done. We just have to add the bathroom downstairs and a move the plumbing for our washer and dryer (plumbing will be done by a professional) We layed laminate flooring in the basement. These past few days, I have noticed moisture on the floor and next to the baseboards. This is only by 2 of the exterior walls which do have a vapour barrier behind (none was there before) We are aware that all water needs to be kept away from the house (a bad experience from last summer and before our renos when we first moved in) I am in Canada and we have been having a heat wave so it has not been raining for any water to be pooling in those areas outside the house. Any ideas why I would find moisture/dew on my newly layed floors? I am worried that these floors will rot or grow mold thusmaking more work. The baseboards we installed were faily cheap and have started to warp so now those will have to be replaced! We did also lay the the foam underneath the flooring before we installed. Any ideas and/or solutions are appreciated!!!
Thanks

Sounds like you have moisture coming in from the floor. The foam is acting like a vapor barrier and not letting the floor breath. To see if I'm wright, on your floor where it is just concrete place a piece of plastic down 2x2 and tape it down around (all) of outside. let it sit 48 hours and see if their is condensation on it.

can the plastic be placed over the laminate floor? The only place that I have visable concreate left is where the bathroom will go and laundry room. Everything else has been covered by the laminate.

Have you looked at the installation instructions for your laminate floor? - Usually a VAPOR BARRIER is REQUIRED to prevent moisture from transpiring or accumulated on flooring.

You can let a concrete floor breathe all you want, but you will still get moisture coming up from the soil below. Fans will bot remove the moisture from the concrete and soil and you need some sort of a barrier.

You definitely have moisture around your foundation and need to prevent it from damaging you laminate.

When we first looked at buying the laminate flooring, we did tell them that this would be for a basement. We provided the measurments as they provided us with the correct amount including the foam underlay. However, they didn't say anything about an actual 'plastic vapour barrier' unless the foam they provided us with was to act as one? The reason I say that is because the foam is slippery and has a plastic like feel to it unless all of the underlay is like that.

Is there a way to prevent the moisture other than redoing the floor?
