about a year ago i dropped some chlorine on the carpet . i diluted it with water(later i learned that this was not the right thing to do). i could not afford to fix the spots then. how long does it take for chlorine to neutralize by itself?

I don't believe that the chlorine will neutralize by itself, however I think that washing it with a solution of vinegar will neutralize it. But since you waited a year to do anything, you may find that the chlorine has weakened the carpet fibers and it may come apart when you scrub it now.

I agree that after this long, there's probably nothing you can do to remedy this, if there ever was. Chlorine is not a common material to have - how did come to spill this on the carpet in the first place?

the bleachstain.com site...I just have to say that this stuff saved my butt when moving out of my apartment. This stuff seems kind of shady, but really works.

If it happened a year ago the chlorine is long gone, it evaporates pretty rapidly. By the time the carpet was dry the chlorine was probably gone so there's no need to neutralize it. You'll just have to dye the bleached spots to match the rest of the carpet.
