I am not sure if I am in the right forum, but here goes. I am trying to get info for making a bathroom "elderly friendly" for my father who is 77yrs old. Are there any resources avilable as to what is avilable, toilet, tub etc. And where to find a contractor who might specialize in this type of remodel. I won`t be able to do it myself. He is in another state. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

The make toilets that a slightly taller than standard ones. They go by the terms - "comfort height" - "ADA compliant" - or "handicap". They are readily available at most stores. For the tub area you can have "assist bars" added. Those are the metal bars you find in most handicap bathrooms. Seats are available in a variety of shapes and sized that you can fit into the tub. Most of the items can be installed by a local handyman.

Like said there is a ton of stuff out there and any quality plumber can assist you in this project. You may also be able to get in touch with his local AARP and they may have a list of contractors that specialize in this area.

For more detailed information (and you may have to do a little googling) check out the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act 28CFR Part 36. I also use a pretty good book called Visueal Handbook of Building and Remodeling by Charlie Wing, which gives a pretty good visualization (hence the title, I guess) of what to do.
