After taking care of problems with my two air conditioners thanks to all the good information from you guys,I was wondering about the operating amperage of ac comperssers.On the side of the compressers it had the LRA listing of each one,but what I was wondering is what is the actual operating amps of the ac compressor.If the LRA is 45 amps,what is the actual operating amps.Also I'm assuming the total amp draw on the model plate of the compersser is the total amps of the blower motor and the compresser,is this right?Thanks

LRA is locked rotor amps. There should be an RLA which is running load amps. If not then you may be able to look at the data plate on the motor itself.

Thanks for your reply.Looking at the compresser there is no RLA rating,just LRA 45.On the motor name plate there is no RLA just A:1.1 On the model name plate there is no RLA just total cooling amps which is A:8.3.How do you find the RLA of the compresser if you wanted to see if it was operating as it should?Is there a formular for figuring this out?

The compressor manufacturer will normally not state the actual running amperage of a compressor because each equipment mfr may operate the compressor differently depending on the application.
If the tag on the a/c only gives the total amperage of the unit then just subtract the amperage of the fan.

Thaank you for the info.I was hoping that it would be kinda simple to do.So if the compressor is in the range of the remaining amps (after substracting fan amps ) then it should be in good shape,as for as performance goes,right? Thanks again for your time and info.
