I recently tore out the drywall in my garage due to holes from the previous owner. Much of the insulation in the walls looks to be moldy. (It was fairly thin insulation (1" or 1 1/2" I think) with no vapor barrier. The drywall inside the house has a silver backing to it. When I go to redo my insulation, is it wrong to put the vapor barrier facing the garage side? I don't want to have to rip the drywall out in the house to get the vapor barrier facing the living room/kitchen, but I also don't want to risk the insulation getting moldy again. And what is the silver backing on the drywall? I've done some drywall work in the past, but never with this kind.
**Note, I will not be heating/cooling my garage except for maybe an occassional fan.
Thanks in advance for your response.

Id say the insulation is not moldy. Id bet it is dirt from air movement from the holes. Don't add another VB on the garage side because you will have a moisture problem with the double VB.
