Uh-oh. Bought a new (used) house, haven't settled yet, though. Went inside today and the central air compressor is running, but it's about 84 degrees inside the house. Blower won't run, even when I turn thermostat from auto to fan. It seems to be connected to some sort of timer as well, but no amount of fiddling with it (including removing the battery) caused the fan to kick on. All breakers are "on" in the electrical box. Unit was installed only 2 years ago. Anything I overlooked???

On the side of the handler unit/furnace is there a switch? (Is it on?)

Is there a disconnect box mounted on a beam or wall or ceiling within a few feet of the furnace? (If so, is it on?)

Is the door to the blower compartment off or ajar? (has to be on tight to complete a switchcircuit).

Do you hear a hum from blower compartment itself? (That could mean the blower wheel is stuck, as in bad capacitor, bad motor windings or bad motor bearings).

Can you spin the blower wheel freely by hand? (while unit is turned off of course!)

Can you try to turn off the furnace for about 30 seconds or so and turn it back onto see if anything resets?

It's a separate system from the heat, which is baseboard hot water (gas boiler). Unfortunately, the air handler/blower is in the attic crawl space, where I can't get at it without a great deal of work. I am not aware of any other switches, but maybe there is one downstairs someplace. Is it customary when installing a unit like this to have a separate cut off switch for the blower?

I'm more familiar with furnace handler type systems with a/c and maybe someone else here is more familiar with how they wire up your application.

It seems odd though that it is tucked away in a spot THAT hard to get to, because obviously anything with a motor will require maintenance, service or replacement. You'd THINK there'd be some disconnect box (fuses/breakers) near it, since it's probably so far from the panel box.
