During our remodel we paid an electrician to install wiring for a ceiling fan to two wall switches, one for the light and one for the fan. The ceiling fan we purchased came with a remote. The electrician wired the ceiling fan/light for use with the remote and now only one wall switch works to turn the unit on. The other wall switch does nothing. Is there a way to wire the ceiling fan to the two wall switches, one for the light and one for the fan, and have the remote wired too?

Your thoughts?

This should be possible, however, you will lose the remote capability for the one function.

Why do you want to override the remote function?

I like the remote and will keep it. But with the remote feature wired in use, one of the wall switches serves no purpose. We were charged extra to install two wall switches, so I was wondering if there was a way to get use out of both wall switches and the remote feature at the same time. Thanks for the response.

The remote needs to have constant power to be able to operate. If you turn off from the switch the remote will not operate. You need to choose, switch or remote.

You can at least make the second switch do the same thing as the first switch. That's what I did. Now the fan has power if either one or both of the wall switches is on. It just makes it easier when flipping switches to not have to remember which one is the one that does something. But it still doesn't give you what you want.

By the way, if both switches are off and you turn both of them on (not touching the remote transmitter), does the fan's light come on, or not?
