We have a central air system which was working perfectly. During a week trip away from home my husband accidently left the unit on and it no longer works. Could it have frozen up? Burned out?. Neither the compressor nor fan work. If I put my ear right on the unit I hear a very faint hum. Any advice would be helpful.

May just be a starter capacitor. Best to have a pro access it as you, or hubby would be playing with 220 volts.

Do you have power to the unit?? Check the breakers or fuse first. The HUM in the outdoor unit or indoor unit?
