Unfortunately I have only 24" for a stove so my choices are limited. We want a black gas stove and like the one pictured at the end of this post (see link).
I never had a slide in stove before (the previous one had a 10" built in backsplash) and wonder if the back burners will cause a heat problem with the new formica blacksplash since I am installing a preformed formica countertop?
There is a 1 1/2" metal lip at the back of the stove. Is this sufficient?
Thanks.

Heat is usually not an issue with drop in ranges(actually sits on the edge of the countertop)., but check the installation manual from the manufacturer. Slide in ranges fit between the countertops, so they don't touch the top.

I'm worried about heat at the back, against the formica backsplash, because the backsplash is vertical (as opposed to the formica surface at the sides of the stove).

Should not be a problem. Formica backsplashes were the in thing long before other materials, and they hold up just fine.

Thanks--I'm gonna go with it.
