I am looking to replace my old formica dbl sink vanity w/ an integrated cultured marble model, as well as my tub and surround. Most places offer the oval or seashell shaped sinks, but a few places offer rectangular-shaped sinks, which caught my eye. I am not sure why I favor them, perhaps more masculine looking or just different. Most places that don't offer the rectangular style sinks, don't have or don't want to order the $700 mold. One place, said they look "dated." Is that the general concensus or are they trying to dissuade me, so they don't have to special order one of the molds?

P.S. When doing a tub/shower & vanity in cult marble, should they be the same color or can you use different colors or materials? It's a small bathroom, but there is a door that separates the tub/shower & commode from the vanity.

I don't find rectangular sinks to be dated at all... in fact, I see them all the time in the design mags. Now seashell-shaped sinks? THAT'S dated.

Just my opinion, but if you're using cultured marble, I'd keep it the same throughout the bathroom. I think doing otherwise would make it appear that the bathroom was remodeled piecemeal - or you got a great deal on a sink then couldn't match the shower. I'd also stick with one of the new solid color or "granite-like" patterns rather than the marbled effect which does tend to look a little dated.

In the end though... go with what you like. It's your money and your bathroom.
