If the fuel inlet needle is not the reason gas mixes with oil in a Briggs engine, are there any other possible causes?
Or is black oil mixed will a small amount of gas normal?

A bad float, bad carburetor, bad fuel pump if equipped. Gas in oil is not normal.

A bad inlet seat or highly excessive fuel pressure could also cause this.

Curious, is this a rider?

Nope, 6.0 OHV push mower. I just don't think the fuel inlet valve is/was the problem; the old looked fine.

JFS, is this the same mower you have at least three different threads going? May I suggest sticking with one thread per machine so that we can have some continuity and follow along as you progress, please. In other words, if you start a thread for a particular mower/machine reply back to that same topic if you have more/continual trouble with the same machine.
