We recently moved into this house. The carpet in one of the rooms has a stiff patch. We tried to clean it with carpet spot cleaner, steam cleaning machine and scrubbing - nothing worked. It just makes the area wet and "gluey"; then dries to a stiff patch again. It looks like there is some kind of clear sticky glue-like material at the bottom of the piles/loops. Any idea how I can get rid of it?
Thanks

Have the same carpet in a closet? If so, maybe cut out the affected area and replace with a matching (if possible ) piece from a closet if this cannot be cleaned.

of course, that would work too. Thanks for the suggestion, Boman47

Hopefully they still match.

doing a cut and patch is harder than you think and will not match if not done correctly
mineral spirits applied to a rag and blot outside to in..but first rinse all the previous attempts out..or when in doubt call a pro...
most have 75-100 mins...bonded insert (patching carpet by a pro) when its damaged beyond spot clean...more than 75

Docduck's recommending the same thing I would - but make sure you rinse out everything else that you've put on there already first.
