It's a 1902 home. I already have a small bathroom with a shower/tub, etc. I'm adding a 10x10 master bathroom. It will have a glass-enclosed shower with tile. The cabinets will be white. The walls will have waincot with white beadboard and teal paint for the walls. I'm trying to have an updated bath but I don't necessarily want to have subway tile in the shower and the hexagon tile for the floor. But if I don't have subway tile and hexagon tile for the floor and have something else, am I just asking for a serious faux paus? Do I need the help of a professional bath designer to help me choose the tile for the shower and floor since I seem to be stressed choosing the design of the tile to tie in this period.

Ideas/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an expert, but will share with you my approach as I too am in the process of adding a bathroom. I'm not able to commit on specific fixtures, vanity, toilet, colors.... It is hard for me to visualize the effect of all of these features tied together. As a result, I am taking the chicken approach. I feel the tile is the most expensive, and in my case, the most noticeable feature in the bathroom. My plan is to tile the walk in shower and bathroom floor. I ended up choosing a natural stone vs tile. Now that this decision is made, all of my other design decisions have to support my stone choice.

I don't know if this is a good approach. I'll let you know when I'm done. However, in your case, maybe your cabinets are the most important feature. If you have a catalog page with a photo of the cabinets, take it to a tile store to see what the experts recommend.
