I need to have the evaporator coil in my home central air system replaced. The system is 10 years old.
The coil is very corroded and occassionly releases condensate in large bursts which overflows the drip pan. The drain is clear.
The evap coil is mounted in a seperate air handler attached to the garage ceiling.
Given the age of this system, should I also replace the outside compressor/etc. as long as I am having work done anyway?
I live in south Florida and the unit has a lot of hours on it.
Thanks for any advice.

I see nothing wrong with just replacing just the evaporator coil. If that's what it needs.
If you are looking for increased efficiency and reliability, then you can go ahead and replace the condenser too.

You'll likely have a better system if the whole works is installed at the same time by the same people with the same brand.

Down there for sure go for a higher seer on the unit. Look for one with a seer of 15 or over. For that you have to put in a new blower coil and outdoor unit. I take it your on FPL so for sure have them put in a time delay on the condenser unit. Also down there for sure get 3 bid for the job.
