I just finished my hardiboard in my shower, but I have some gaps in the corners. Do I caulk these or mortar before applying the ceramic tile?

There is a fiberglass tape, that looks like the stuff drywallers use, intended for this purpose. You need to tape all your seams and corners. There are two ways to do it. I, personally, prefer to do the taping, let it set up, and then install the tile. Others prefer to tape as they go. Either way works, but you do need the tape. Although it looks the same, drywall mesh tape is not the same stuff so use the right tape.

Use a fiberglass tape on the corners with thinset for fill..... When you do the tile - use caulking at the intersections to allow for the slight movement that will inevitably occur....

The tape Smokey speaks of is alkalai resitent mesh tape. You can find it in the same isle as the tile and cement board at the big box stores.
