For the last couple days I been having problems with rental dvd's. I don't know what the probelm is, I put the disc in and it won't load. The screen will say check disc. It's been a hit and miss lately, some of the movies I rent work and some don't.
I was starting to think it was my dvd player, but every single dvd I own plays great. They are all brand new dvds, only been viewed once or twice.

So now I wondering, could it be possible that some of the dvds I'm getting have been viewed so many times that they are just bad. I inspected the dvds and they look good but I did notice there are some grooves around the center hole in the middle of the dvd. Is this possible?

I would hate to go out and buy a new dvd player only to have the same problem.

It could be a little of both. If your player has a dirty lens it may not be as forgiving as it was when it was new. Try running a cleaning disc.

I've also seen quite a few rental DVDs with scratches, fingerprints, and who-know-what on them. Check 'em in the store before you take 'em home. If they look damaged, ask for another copy.

You can also try washing them in dishwashing detergent. Make sure they're completely dry before playing them.
