I just planted a new flowering plum tree. The bark was stripped around the base of the tree near the root sack. What can I do to save the tree?

unfortunately, if it is stripped all the way around the tree has been "girdled" and it will die. usually if the bark is only damaged part way around, the tree will heal naturally.

is there any way to try and save it? Tape the bark back, anything? Aside from the money spent, this thing is very heavy and will be a nigtmare to get back out of the ground.

Bark transports nutrients, minerals, and moisture necessary for survival of the tree. Once the tree is 'girdled,' the tree will die. There is no salvation.

Thanks for the replies. I already dug it up and planted another one.
