I was told that I could prime my kitchen w/ oil based primer before I put latex paint over it, is this correct?

Kitchen cabinets or walls?

I used ordinary Killz primer/sealer then sprayed latex on my cabinets and they came out great.

There are many instances when it is appropriate to use oil base primer under latex.

Is there a reason you need to use an oil base primer on your kitchen?

I am re-doing our kitchen and we had to put up some new drywall and left some old drywall (w/paint on it) as is. I had a contractor/friend tell me I should use oil base primer over the drywall. I read some conflicting info and was wondering if I should just use a latex primer.

You rarely need to use an oil base primer on new drywall. Interior oil base primer is mainly for sealing stains and creating a bond on surfaces that are hard to create a bond with new paint.

You should be fine using a latex primer.

Great, thank you!
