I live in the central part of the USA and have approximately 15 tomato plants. Recently we have received 5 to 7 inches of rain over a 4 to 5 day period. Some of my plants are turning brown and wilting. I assume it is from too much water.

My question is will the plants return back to normal after the soil drys? Or is there anything I can do to salvage the plants? Someone suggested putting pelletize lime at the base of the plants.

Yellowing of leaves and leaf drop when tomatoes get too much water is not uncommon. Plants will likely recover. Do not water unless soil dries out to at least six inches down where the roots are. Next year plant tomatoes in raised beds to allow for better drainage and space plants far enough apart so that they get good air circulation and leaves can dry off more quickly.
