I'm new to this forum so bear with me! I would like to paint my 17yr old daughters bedroom furniture black. Any advice on how to get started? I plan on stripping the old paint off, but do I need to primer it after that since it will be black? And which type of paint is best for a glossy or semi glossy look? I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks!!! Crystal

Welcome to the forums Crystal
Assumming the set is wood and has a normal type finish on it, it shouldn't be necessary to remove the old finish although it should be clean of wax or grime. Then sand it well. Normally I'd use a solvent based primer but because you plan to use black I would instead wipe it down with deglosser and apply a coat of oil base black enamel, lightly sand when dry and apply 1-2 more coats.
Go to your local paint store [not dept] and tell them your plans and they will set you up with the best enamel for your needs.

Hi Crystal-
I recently painted an unfinished pine chair black (after priming) using Sherwin-William's All-Surface, oil-based paint. It was very easy to apply and dried to a great, hard finish. I highly recommend this paint.
