I have a Sony CD/DVD player and would like to update the speaker wire to something easier to hide (ie flat or at least white speaker wire). How do I deal with Sony's proprietary connectors?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Welcome to the Forums!
The only thing I could suggest is to cut the wire about 6" after the plug, and crimp on standard cable, BUT, I have not seen the inerds of a Sony cable, so not sure if it's a simple two wire setup like standard cable.
I might want to know this before cutting the cable.
What is the model # of this Sony unit?

Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like a likely solution. The model number is DAV-FC7. The speaker wire appears to be standard 16AWG with special color coded connectors on the ends.

At the speaker end, cut off a six-inch chunk, noting which one is marked red. (Use a piece of tape to mark it.) Take the chunk to Home Depot or Lowes. Have them match the size & type in whatever color you like. Then follow hotinokc's advice to extend the wires as necessary.
Crimped "butt splice" connectors are preferred, but gray or blue wire nuts will work.

Thank you both for the advice. I bought some "butt splice" connectors last night as well as some white speaker wire. It should be easy from here.
Thanks again.
