Sorry, if this is here somewhere, I'm in a rush to head to work.....

I put in a new electric water heater, and I'm not getting any hot water. It's not an issue with power, I metered everything out, 240V at each element. I let it run for a few hours before trying the taps.

When I installed it, I did my water connections first, and turned on the cold water before doing the electrical. I ran a tap (only one...problem?) and let it release air before doing any electrical.

Now, I have to re-do my water connections tonight because I have a leak. When I drained my tank the water didn't exactly rush out, it kinda trickled out slowly overnight. I'm not entirely sure the tank was full, but I could be wrong. ANy thoughts? Thanks.

you have 240 at each element all the time?

Most water heaters energize only one element at a time with the upper element taking priority over the lower element.

How were you measuring the voltage to get 240 volts?

water running out of the tank; if you did not open a hot water tap, you probably had vacuum keeping the water from running out freely.

do you have an ohm meter? if so, measure the resistance across each element (obviously with the poer off.)

Please forgive me for asking this question but are you sure you plumbed the cold water supply to the cold water inlet? If you reversed the piping you would likely get a minimal amount of hot water.

Also, follow Nap's advice.
