In-laws built a lake home a few years ago and, despite my insistence that it was a bad idea, put cedar siding on the outside. We stained all the boards before they were installed. They need to be redone now. First time around, they bought a semi-transparent stain from a big box store. I at least have them convinced now that they need better stain, so it's up to me to pick. Any suggestions as to what will give the best durability here?

I'm with your in-laws - cedar looks so much nicer than vinyl :D
IMO you can't go wrong with SWP or BM. They should also know what's best for your locale. Be sure to do all the proper prep, add extra mildewcide if it's a problem.

I thank you both for your help.
Mark: I agree new cedar looks better, but it costs twice as much and takes more work and right now the vinyl on my house looks better than the cedar on theirs.

Talked to MIL last night and she said they had been to a paint store for something else recently and they carried BM, so I think we're set.
