Hi:

I recently drafted up plans to start on covering our patio, and I feel I have a pretty good idea what I am doing. I have an initial questions though on putting up two 4x4 posts (wood). I feel I have two options for this:

1) Attach a mounting bracket to the existing exterior concrete slab

2) Pour new concrete in two spots for the mounting brackets just off the concrete slab.

I have not worked with concrete too much, and have the following concern. Wouldn't drilling into the concrete slab near the edge to mount the bracket for the post potentially break off part of the slab? Also, what type of fastener do you use to "screw" the bracket into the conrecte onec the hole is drilled?

I am sure Home Depot or Lowes can assist me with this, but I wanted to see what others' thoughts and suggestions are.

Thanks!

Christian
