I love this tv! I have never had any trouble with it until about 3 years ago it developed a small black band at the bottom of it. I replaced it with a HDTV big screen and placed this one in the playroom figuring the kids could still use it until it finally goes or I can get it fixed. Well over time everone had cone heads and very short legs. and now the black band covers almost 1/2 of the screen. I was reading several forums and I have pretty much decided it is a capacitor gone bad. My question is, is this something I could replace myself or is it one of those parts that hold electricity and will electracute me?

Also I emailed Toshiba customer support and asked them if they could send me the schematics for this tv and they told me to find an authorized repair shop to look at it. :-( I want the schematics so maybe I could compare and figure out exactly what a capacitor looks like.

If anyone can explain to me where to look for this and what I need to do to replace it I would be so greatful!!! I can't really justify putting alot of money into the tv as it is 11 years old but I don't want to get rid of it either because I really do love this tv. Great color, great sound, great picture except the short legs and coneheads. Thank you in advance.
