Just finished having a new HVAC system installed:
- Honeywell Vision Pro 8000 Thermostat (TH8320U1008)
- Trane 2.5 ton XR13 Heat Pump
- Trane 2.5 ton 2TFB Air Handler
I want to mount a hygrometer next to the thermostat. Any recommendations?

Thanks. What's your opinion on what makes a hygrometer good?

Hygrometers measure humidity level in the home. You want to maintain year round between 35-55%.

If absolute accuracy and repeatability is needed then nothing less than a unit with calibrated RTD's and a chilled-mirror dew point detector would do.
Of course your wallet would be lighter by a few thousand dollars if you purchased such a device.
For home usage, any hygrometer you find in the hardware, department or big box store is sufficient. All it is for is an indication. As twelvepole suggests, 35% to 55% is fine. I usually suggest 40% to 60% but then I live in a damper (and generally cooler) climate.

You can usually find hygrometers in the aisle where thermometers are sold. These tend to do a pretty decent job of reporting humidity levels in the home. If HVAC is properly sized, you should have no humidity issues if you keep it running.

The problem is no load times! Have never seen a basement never need a dehumidifier.
