I bought and installed a window air conditioner that worked PERFECTLY the first day. I was very happy, since we haven't had air conditioning for years at this house, and it gets hot during the summer months!

Well, today it worked just fine again...and then around midday I hear it start to rev up and then I hear a very loud rattling, clicking sound as if there was something hitting against the fan. The unit stopped cooling altogether and now only blows in hot air from the outside.

I checked inside it while it was still running, and I found two semi-large insects dancing around in the water that was collecting in the baseplate (the manual says in humid areas this water is normal, but says nothing about how to deal with insects)

The telltale buzzing noise it used to make when cooling the air (if you have an AC, you know the one; all air conditioners seem to make it) no longer happens. It tries to, but after a few seconds the unit shakes and the loud rattling and clicking happens again momentarily before it stops and starts blowing normal, hot air again.

The unit in question is a DAEWOO DWC-055RL Energy Star Air Conditioner with Remote Control. I have shut the unit off and have instructed my family members not to fool with it until I know what to do with it. Aside from taking the thing apart and cleaning the bugs out of it, I don't know what to do. Are the bugs causing these problems or is something else going on?

Id say take it back to where you got it.
