I have an inflatable with a 15 hp Mercury 2 stroke that I want to convert to a remote throttle/shift control unit. I've picked up some parts on craigslist and Ebay - a Unihelm and control box with short control cables. The outboard now has shift and throttle control through the tiller. I see a couple rubber grommets that come out on the opposite side of the motor, I'm assuming for the control cables to connect. Will I need some sort of attachment for the cable housings to connect to the frame? Also, must the tiller be removed to use a remote shifter? I realize this is probably a little too general, but I'm not sure of the model number of my outboard - I believe it's a mid to late 1990's model. I would appreciate any advice - thanks!
