A friend loaned his trimmer to a neighbor. Now when my friend tries to start it, gas comes out of the muffler.
I've never seen this problem.
Ideas on how to troubleshoot.

The carburetor is not functioning properly and, at a minimum, will need to be spray cleaned and blown out with compressed air. You may possibly need to soak (in a bath cleaner) and recondition the carb with an OEM rebuild kit depending on the condition of it once you have disected it. A remote possibility is if the gas tank, for some reason, is building up too much pressure thus forcing pressure on the metering lever and thereby the inlet needle in the carb and just pushing fuel into the cylinder. The former is by far the most likely problem.
