Solid Hardwood, Engineered and Laminate Flooring - reparing masking tape damage to hardwood floor

We recently tried to protect our hardwood flooring during a renovation by taping brown paper to the floor with masking tape. The tape remained on the floor for the duration of the renovation, approx. 2 months. Upon removal of the tape, the prefinished floor was left scarred and it looks like the finish came off. We are now left with ""ghost images"" of all the taped areas.
Help! Can we repair the damaged areas without having to refinish the whole floor?
(We have a bottle of the existing floor stain which was given to us by the floor installer many years ago.)

Have you tried using a little charcoal lighter fluid to clean it? I've seen that before and it's usually been old residue from the tape that hardened over time and stayed on the floor. Charcoal lighter fluid is very effective for removing it, yet won't harm the floor finish. Prefinished hardwood normally has an aluminum oxide finish that you won't be able to duplicate at home. If you actually did damage it, you'll need someone more knowledgeable in that area than me. But, not to worry, there are several of them on this site.
