I've recently moved out of an old apartment to find out that our land lord wants to take us to court for some repairs......... But I want to put in a counter claim for a window that I payed for to get placed when I first moved in that I don't think I was in fault. My Kitchen window which was a double pane window had cracked for no reason. I told the land lord that maybe a bird had hit it but it was the inside pane that was cracked and he said we would have to pay for it. Since I justed moved in, I didn't want to cause any trouble so I did. When the window repair guy came in, he said that the tape that connects the two panes was not attached right (I have a picture of an example I could email someone) and that would compromise's the integrity of the glass and anything could have caused it to crack. Can anyone confirm this this for me? I tried to call the repair service and get them to but they are really slow in checking their files.

Double insulated glass is much more than two panes of glass with tape between, it is a unit and can not be separated. It has to be removed, replaced as a unit. One some manufacturers, the glass cannot be replaced, the glass litterally becomes part of the sash. The whole sash has to be replaced. Many manufacturers warrant glass for 20 yrs, have your landlord check to see if that applies.
