Getting prepared to lay engineered bamboo over existing tile in my house. Since the tile contains asbestos, I want to leave it in place. The question I have is in some rooms, there are tiles (non asbestos) over tiles (asbestos). The top tiles pop off nice and easy but there is a little residue from the glue. Do I HAVE to remove the glue, or if it is within the tolerence of flatness, can I lay down the underlayment as is?
Also, some rooms have carpet only. To adjust for the 1/8" height difference, where the slab room meets a tile room, can I utilize a thicker underlayment, or is this even necessary?
Thanks DIYers.

you don't have to remove the glue if it's within the 1/8" tolerance.
the rooms with carpet are probably lower than the rooms with the tiles. you might need to add 1/4" plywood to bring them up level with the tiled areas. that's what we had to do.
do NOT use thicker underlayment. more than just the one regular layer of underlayment will create too spongy of a surface & your planks will crack at the joints from too much movement when walked on. and you will have voided your warranty.

Annette,
Thanks for the reply.
Can anyone else confirm that I can leave the adhesive on the VAT and float my new flooring directly over that? Using an underlayment of course.
Thanks for any help!
