I'm about to start laying a floor. The last time I did a laminate floor I had trouble using the spaces to maintain a gap from the wall. The problem is the sheet rock is above the concrete slab about a 1/4 inch. the spacers would tilt and get wedged under the sheetrock.
Any suggestions?

I like to use the gap under the sheet rock to my own advantage. Instead of spacers, I under cut the drywall about half an inch and then clean the resulting gap back to the plate. I lay the laminate even with the edge of the wall so it looks as if there's no gap. In reality, this allows the laminate to expand under the drywall the thickness of said drywall which is more than required. It also gives you the full thickness of the base to shrink which usually eliminates the need for additional 1/4 round.

But how do you get the laminate to stay under the edge of the drywall without getting shoved against the plate? As I tap in additional rows it tends to push the row of laminate against the plate. Or is it okay to be against one plate and a gap from the other side of the wall?

You should get some Crain 562 Plastic Spacers.
