Recently we purchased an Andersen Series 400 Frenchwood Gliding Patio Door.

My biggest concern is how the horizontal and vertical panels surrounding the glass have not been fully seated to seal the panels from water infiltration. There are large gaps where the panels meet and a business card can easily be slipped in. In addition, the application of the caulking at the corners around the windows is very poor.
Is this typical Andersen quality?

I have been installing Anderson products for the past 15 years, and have NEVER seen an issue like this. Where was this unit purchased?
Who installed the unit? Either way, get ahold of the Anderson sales rep for your area - the company will replace this unit. Contact the place of purchase - they will put you in touch with the rep. if not do the leg work for you.
Good Luck, and rest assured that you purchased a quality product that the company will stand behind!

Glad to hear this is not typical. Our contractor was appalled when he saw how poorly the door panels were assembled. We purchased our Andersen Series 400 Frenchwood Gliding Patio Door and two custom Series 400 Flexiframe windows from Lumbermen’s. Our sales person, David Tarver, has provided us with excellent service and helped resolve other issues with our Andersen order. We actually went through several frame kits because Andersen sent the wrong kit or the presentation side of the side jam on the operating side was scuffed and scratched very badly along its entire length.

I did talk with our salesperson and he has put us in touch with the local Andersen representative. I have asked him to come buy to see the door panels and will report back as to how Andersen resolved this issue.

I heard a rumor that Andersen laid off a bunch of people but made them work for a few more months in order to keep their profit sharing. Were that true, I believe quality would suffer during that time.

Two Andersen representatives visited our home yesterday and inspected the door panels. Upon seeing the poor workmanship they immediately ordered two new panels to be replaced and installed under warranty. Glad this was resolved in a timely manner.

That's the Andersen I have always known. They stand behind their products. I have had them send me parts for windows out of warranty, for free.
