We have a lot of stone on our property and would like to use it to build a stone fireplace. 1. Do I need to do anything special to the stones we collect on our property to prep them for building the fireplace and 2. Can I use firebricks on the inside to make the chimney? (and do I need to, it would be a "gas" fireplace running off of propane.)
Thanks for any help!

Check with your local building code office. Outdoor fireplace plans must be approved and permitted. Codes dictate what type of firebricks can be used. You will need to do some research on outdoor fireplace plans to find one that you like. You can gather stones. They require no prep. They can be cut and shaped as desired when placed.
