My cousin gave me his Mastercraft 6.25 lawnmower and I can't get it started after putting new gas and new oil and sparkplug. After pulling starter cord fruitlessly I removed the spark plug but did not smell any gas on the plug. The choke wire and safety bar wire both seem to be operating normally. I think this unit sat for about a year before I got it . Any thoughts out there ?

Most likely carburetor related since it has been dormant for a year. Will it start with ether sprayed (sparingly, as ether burns quite hot) into the throat of the carburetor? You need to remove the air filter to access the throat. If it starts and runs only briefly - in other words, the ether burning - then the carburetor is in need of reconditioning. Post back with these findings as well as the engine ID numbers.
