i would like to install a brick border for my plant beds in front of my house utilizing the leftover brick we have from purchasing our home. i would like a staggered look (and i've figured out how to do that) but what i'm not sure about is the process to get everything together.

i assume i need to dig a trench (4" maybe?), make sure everything is level, lay the bricks and put mortar inbetween them... but what else? i would like the bricks to lay horizontally and the bed to be about 2' tall.

i've never done anything like this before, so any help is appreciated. thnx!
