I have an American Standard, two-handle kitchen faucet with a spray nozzle on the end of a hose. The faucet is less than two years old but has a bad diverter valve. I have removed the faucet nozzle and and the screw-in valve retainer, but how does the diverter valve come out? Does it have screw threads or does it just drop in? The valve has a screw slot on top which will rotate 1/4 turn, but it doesn't seem to release the valve.

Thanks

Usually the diverter valves screw in, with several turns of the valve. A 1/4 turn sounds like you have turned it enough.
