I just purchased a Samsung HD870 DVD player. It up converts your signal from 480 to 720 or 1080i. I LOVE IT!!!! IT was only 80 dollars and what a difference!! I have a Samsung DLP 42inch and it looks just like my HD channels. It is very easy to set up and works great. Just thought I would share this bit of info!! Figure why spend 300+ on a HD/BLUERAY player.

Blu-Ray plays 1080P, which is almost 70% more quality then the next highest format 720P.

Blu-Ray still destroys any quality of a standard upconvert player.

Theoretically, 1080P should be far and above 1080i or 760p.
However, side-by-side you can't tell the difference between 1080P and 1080i
from over eight feet or so from the screen.

btw, NHK Japan has announced over 4,000 lines of resolution in a newer technology. We'll see !!!???

Yeah but when you don't have a 1080 compatible tv then this is a much better and cheaper way out. Does Blue Ray convert to 720?? Plus I don't wanna spend 300+ dollars on the player and then buy the movies that are 30 to 60 dollars a movie!!!! I have a 100+ collection of dvds. I noticed a huge difference today when I got home my bro was watching am movie and it looked wierd so I hit the up conversion button and it was on 480. Switched it to 720 and cleared it right up!!! He was kinda amazed!!
