Just got a quote to do a driveway extension, patio and shed pad...

I was under the assumption I would need the stone/gravel underlay and then tampered down...

I was told that seeing as I had a sandy/loamy soil I could get away without the stone and shouldn't have to worry about the cement afterwards...

I know sand packs together well but is my chain getting pulled here? I don't like to question professionals too often....I'm not a know it all handyman of all trades guy but this kinda seemed odd.

Just require that he provide compaction tests to 90% + of the base. For the sidewalks/patio, it is probably OK, but for the driveway, not a good idea.
