I am having a 6" thick slab poured and will have to drill for anchor bolts. How long do I need to wait before I can drill ?

If you are having it poured, why would you need to drill for anchor bolts? They should be placed before the pour.

Hi,

I am putting up a steel building and the trusses are steel with very little forgiveness in placing the bolts. The margin for error on placement seemed much higher if we tried to pour around the bolts.

THe slab was poured yesterday. Any input on when it would be safe to drill ? It is 4000 psi.

Drill soon.

Whatever you put in will never be as strong as a bolt with a plate or washer on the embedded end.

What you do is ask for scaled drawings of the column foot plates. Then you make templates to hold the bolts in place from 3/4" plywood. This does 2 things:

1. It holds the bolts in the proper place.
2. It gives you 3/4" to adjust the column height (or tweak the bolt horizontally).

Drill soon and hope you don't hit too much rebar.
