My beloved Toshiba TV still has a beautiful picture and all the manual control buttons on the set function properly. Unfortunately, the ability to control it remotely simply quit overnight. None of the numerous remotes I have make the TV operate anymore so I'm sure the problems is in the TV's IR receiver.

The set is to heavy for me to take it to a shop so any info regarding repairing this myself would be appreciated. I've already done numerous internet searches and haven't been able to find anything about removing the TV's IR receiver or purchasing a replacement.

I've never changed one before so I can't tell you what the repair procedure is for it.

The connection for the receiver maybe solder on, or it might be a plug type connection. You could dismantel the unit and find out! :-p

Are you sure the remote is still working? Use a digital camera to see the pulses. If the remote has options to control a VCR, Cable and Aux in addition to the TV, make sure you press the TV button first. Also, have you moved the TV recently? Is is in direct sunlight or close to a fluorescent light? Both will interfere with IR receivers.

The O/P has tried multiple remotes.

I have never seen florescent lights or sunlight interfer with a remote signal. That may only come into play at extreme longer distances.

Forgive me if it seemed like I was trying to undermine your advice. That wasn't my intent. We never know how much an OP knows, so I was trying to offer a couple of additional suggestions to narrow down the possible cause. (For example, are the additional remotes programmed to operate the TV?) If any had panned out, it would be an easier fix than taking the TV apart.

"I have never seen florescent lights or sunlight interfer with a remote signal."

We had several service calls to a board room at a major corporation. We always showed up early in the morning and everything worked perfectly. Couldn't find the problem. Turns out the afternoon sun was a direct hit on the IR receiver (repeater). Repositioned it and all was well. I haven't had any direct experience with fluorescent lights, but if the conditions are right they can also interfere. There's a white paper about it on the IEEE website.
