Hi, I need to replace my front entrance hand rail. It is black iron, about 20 years old, and not sturdy. There are about 10 steps of concrete to a concrete landing at the front door. The outer edge is trimmed with brick on the landing and stairs. I went to Home Depot, and they had a white vinyl wrapped setup that looked nice. Apparently, to install it I have to drill into the concrete and brick and install 4x4 posts, which the vinyl casing will slide over. Is this the best way? Are there easier ways to do this? How do I drill these large post holes? Especially without destroying the brick trim.
Thanks in advance.
Mike

The posts set on top of the concrete. A metal bracket is first attached to the concrete with four bolts. Then a sleeve is placed over the bracket. I just finished a porch and step railing on my front porch a few weeks ago. If you want to see the result go to:

In the photo showing the finished railings, the posts at the bottom of the steps are 4x4's set in the ground and covered with a sleeve. The posts at the top of the steps are the bracket and sleeve arrangement described above.

Hi, I bought this kit and it is for Concrete. Only problem is, I have to drill into brick. I tried to attach the posts and the screws won't hold. Does anyone have any recommendations? Will this strategy not work?
