I am thinking of trying to grow my wisteria as a fence, using rebar and some kind of wire. What would be the best way to train the wisteria to grow where I want.

Rows of copper or aluminum wire are best because they do not rust. Wires will need a strong support system, such as fence posts. Constant pruning will be required to keep wisteria within bounds.

once you have the "fence structure" attach the vines with string not wire. Wire will eventually girdel the vine and kill it. If you use string made of natural fibers then it will decompose over time and that is okay cause the vine will be strong enought to hold it's position.
