My system is a Gibson and during the winter months my daughter heard a loud pop from the unit then she smelled smoke. I called someone to fix it and I don't know what he did (I was a work) but he said not to turn the unit on for an hour at which time the unit started working properly. A couple of weeks later the unit stopped working again. The fan inside the unit was working (inside unit) but the blower was not blowing any air at all, it just made a loud noise. I turned the unit off and haven't bothered it since. Now that the weather has changed we are sweating like animals in here. I turned the unit to the cool setting and turned the unit back on at which time it worked for one day and then the loud noise came back and no air from the blower (inside). The inside fan works in the unit but the blower sounds like it wants to start (hence the loud noise) but then the noise stops and you just hear the fan. The outside unit appears to be working fine. HELP!!

The description of the symptoms is confusing to me & I suggest you call your service company.
When the unit quit after only two weeks you should have called the servicer back right away. There is a good chance they would have considered this a recall & would have repaired it at reduced cost. By waiting until now to call them, the service company has to presume the equipment has been working properly. To get service on a holiday weekend, it is likely to cost you overtime rates.

I'm a little lost too. That's OK. Sometimes us techs have to actually be there to figure out what is going on.

If you are unhappy with your last tech, perhaps you should find someone else. If possible, try to be at home for the appointment. This way you can ask all your questions. Alternatively, you can ask the tech to call you and explain exactly what is going on.

As a tech, I try to explain everything I see and detail the repairs to the customer. Sometimes a customer is not interested. They just want it fixed and don't want to hear about the details.
