I have a window with a leak that appears with a heavy rain. What is the best way to find the source of the leak?

Welcome to the forums!

You would need to give us a few more clues about your home or we are kind of blindly guessing where this "leak" is coming from. For instance, what type of windows... where do you first notice the water coming in- at top or bottom? Is it on first story windows? What type of siding? What is above the windows that leak- a roof, a deck, 2nd story windows, etc?

In my experience leaks commonly occur on homes with vinyl, aluminum, or steel siding... often from bad installation practices where the window is installed right on top of the building paper, with no head flashing details.

In that case, I would remove siding above the window, and ensure that the building paper overlaps the window's nailing flange on top.

But perhaps more details will help us narrow it down for you a bit. You can even upload digital pics to any fileshareing web site (yahoo / photobucket) and then post the link to the pics here for us to see. Personally, I'd be most interested in seeing the exterior of the home and the location of the windows with leaks.
