Hello experts!
I am adding on to the back of my tiny home.
The lot is sloped at about 8"/ft and is about 42" above grade at the rear (where the addition will be). My plan is to add a two story addition, and the second story will be level with the existing floor. In other words I will have a walk out basement.
This will require the removal of all the soil at the rear of the house (raised foundation on block walls). The roof ridge runs parallel front to back which means the back wall of the house is not carrying too much load.
My question is, if I remove all the soil (approx 6' deep) directly behind the existing block wall, what will keep the block wall from caving in? The soil is rockey clay (rocks like russet potatoes).

FYI - I am using Eco-block for the lower story and am considering replacing the back section of block footing with it as well.

Thanks

You need to talk with foundation contractor, but basically you're going to build a new foundation wall right behind your house and then tie that foundation to your existing foundation by drilling holes into your existing foundation and expoxing rebar into it so that it can be joined to the new foundation.

It needs to be done right, but it's something foundation contractors do all the time.
